Arcangel metalworks a potted history…

The founders, Carline Vivian and Davey Boyall met, and started collaborating, while studying Three Dimensional Design at Middlesex Polytechnic in 1986.

Commissions, following their end of year show, allowed the duo to set up a small workshop in the attic of an engineering company in Tottenham, in the London Borough of Hackney.

Demand grew, and with support from the Crafts Council and the Princes Trust, they moved to larger premises in Dalston, East London. where Carline and Davey worked alongside a community of designers and artists, creating bespoke furniture, lighting, and interior design pieces under the name of Metal House.

In 1993, the studio relocated to the heart of Kings Cross, Projects included the furniture for Cruella de Vil’s fashion studio in Walt Disney's 101 Dalmatians, a sculptural reception desk for Turner Broadcasting's London offices, semi-permanent window displays for Harrods, and a series of ten sculptural pieces for Kensington Palace in memory of Princess Diana.

The redevelopment of Kings Cross in 1999, coupled with the expansion of the business, prompted the pair to relocate to Hertfordshire, where Carline had grown up, and Archangel was born.

With the quality of Davey’s designs, coupled with team arcangel creating bespoke metal masterpieces, it wasn’t long before their reputation grew and commissions came from far and wide.

The team have created and delivered bespoke metal staircases to Barbados, sculptural gates to Madrid and unique furniture to Las Vegas and the Middle East. To name but a few.

Davey now has over 35 years of experience in the design industry and still remains excited by new textures, techniques and design details of every project.
